Your down payment plays a bigger role in your auto loan than many buyers realize. A larger down payment reduces the amount you finance, which lowers your monthly payment and the total interest paid over the life of the loan.
Putting money down can also help you avoid being "upside down" on your loan — owing more than the car is worth — which is especially important in the first year or two of ownership when vehicles depreciate fastest.
For buyers with lower credit scores, a stronger down payment can sometimes offset risk in a lender's eyes, occasionally unlocking better rates or approval where a zero-down application might not qualify.
Not sure how much to put down? Our finance team at Kenosha Auto Group can run different scenarios with you to show how various down payment amounts affect your monthly payment before you sign anything.
